Thanks for the comments. This is actually my first year being able to garden outside of containers (just bought the house and wasn't allowed to garden in the yard at my last apartment), so I decided to do quite a bit of experimenting to see what grew well. I'm forgoing trying to grow any winter crops this year to put in raised beds over the winter, then concentrating on larger quantities of the crops I've chosen to continue with. I have herbs, strawberries and the hottest peppers growing in containers on my deck (so I don't accidentally touch them while I'm working), so that saves me some space in the yard. The only things I got enough of for storage this year were sweet potatoes and tomatoes and I've got 5 lbs of pickles being made right now out of green tomatoes, peppers and the last crop of green beans. Next year should get me enough of everything to be able to save and store quite a lot. I also succession sow, so that helps with getting a larger yield out of my space. You can see my plan for next year here - http://www.smartgardener.com/juliebyrd1614/190611-- - 2014. I would've been lost without that site last year; highly recommend checking it out.
