Red Hill, thanks for the congrats. I've been off line dealing with a unruly modem the last couple days. I wrangled it into submission.

Have a great urban farm day.

Thanks for congrats Wong88. It was a surprise to me. I've been wrestling with a non compliant dsl modem for the last two days.

Red Hill, it's good to hear from you again. Terra Nova Gardens has been a work in progress for sure. This year has been such a great accomplishment. The garden is completely ready for serious gardening next year. This year was a year of weed control and building of fences. Next year will be more about gardening and less about clearing the land. All gardening is finished here. We have had several frosty nights that ended all but the most hardy of plants. ****** If you want to read more about Terra Nova Gardens, the blog is http://olddavesgarden.blogspot.com/

So, Nebraska Dave. Now that the 2012 gardening year is about to come to a close, how did you do with Terra Nova?

Red Hill Hollow, The carpet is working great. I am still amazed at how well everything is growing. It's still a long way until harvest time but I'm hopeful that there will be some harvest to gather. I hope all is well with you and your garden.

Thanks for the new pics Dave. Looks like you're off to a good start. The carpet should do a great job.

Red Hill Hollow, I just posted some new pictures of the garden. I'm have a little trouble keeping ahead of the weeds and grass. The first picture is tomatoes and bell peppers, the second is a picture of the pumpkins, the third is picture of the potatoes and the last one is the wild turkey sweet corn. Yes I planted sweet corn for the wild life. Hopefully, it will keep them away from the sweet corn I have inside the fence but it could backfire and be an invitation for every critter for miles around to come on over and feast in old Dave's buffet garden. :0) The carpet in the garden is free weed barrier from apartment tear outs. There's no need to be concerned about the wind catching it and blowing it around, the rain water filters through the carpet, and it does hold in the moisture some. It's a pretty decent way to organically kill weeds and control them. One must have patience through because it takes about three to four weeks for a complete kill. The corn is a good example. I laid the strips down with four inches of soil showing, planted the corn, when it grew to about four inches, the strips were moved to another location and the process started again. I probably won't get the whole area planted this year but the weed sterilization should be complete. Everything this year is kind experimental. Next year things will get a little more serious. ***** Have a great day in the garden.
