I posted progress pictures... ...my Summer labors... ...chicken yard with log-cabin style chicken coop... ...used rounded garden timbers for body and recycled playhouse roof for roof/lid... ...rain shelter on side with old mimosa limbs for perches... ...chicken yard built around fruit trees... ...fence edged with yellow lantana...

I'm not very familiar with hybrids, but I have looked into a "Star Cross". It combines a Leghorn male with a RIR female... ...the result for the females is a hen with the temperament and domestic qualities of a RIR with the boosted egg laying power of the Leghorn...

Those have to be RIRs; I have 2 and I love 'em...

Hi!

Yes, I get eggs every day. I collected 6 yesterday. My "layers" right now are - Otter (pictured) who is a mixed breed partridge silkie and ??; Mumbo - blue cochin; Fred - Frizzle; Gabi - Game Bird; Maci - Austrolorp (supposed to have been a Maran, but...), Ace - Araucana/Easter Egger X; Bailey - Barred Rock. Waiting in the wings are a Rhode Island - Riley and an Americana - Aponi. Still debating on the 4 hatchlings - not sure if they'll be hens or roos - if they're all hens, we'll keep the splash silkie and showgirl. I'll find forever homes for the other 2. I'm pretty addicted to my chickens. Sigh...

Congrats on Farmer of the Day. I see at least three chickens. Do you get eggs every day from your chickens? My animals are whatever wild life happens to wander through the yard and munch on my garden buffet.
