Why I'm Getting Dirty: Backyard gardening gives me a vote on where my families food comes from and how far it travels to get there. A feeling of accomplishment and pride grow with every crop. The knowledge that each vegetable was grown naturally, without chemical fertilizer or pesticides reassures us that our food doesn't need time to prove its safety because it's grown the way that it always has been grown- naturally as part of a natural cycle. It is easier to relax after working a day in the garden, in the dirt and sun among the flowers and fruits blooming around us as a part of our environment.
