Welcome to the commuting life! I too live about 30 minutes from my office. But I would not trade the "county life" for it. I agree there is nothing like hearing the birds instead of honking horns. Making list has become a daily chore for me. I have found that if I keep a running list of items that I need, then one day during my lunch break or one the way home, I can stop and pick up the items that I need. That way my vechile stays parked for the weekend. Have a great rural farming day!

I have to announce that I'm not an urban gardener anymore. I moved out to a rural area outside of Wilson NC back in September. I am struggling with the trade offs. My commute to work is 30 minutes...lots of fossil fuel use :(. On the other hand, I can grow a sizable portion of what I eat..less fossil fuel, less toxic chemical use.... I love getting up in the morning and hearing nothing but the birds in the woods behind the house. Feeding the deer and watching the rabbits in the field across the road...It's a learning process, lol! I didn't imagine how hard it would be to plan ahead so I won't have to make trips to town!, but so far I am having a great time and looking forward to my gardent this year.

Congrat's on being Farmer of the Day! North Carolina is a gorgeous state and you are fortunate to have wonderful soil! For myself, I will be installing square foot gardens to avoid trying to dig through our limestone rock, ugh.
