I am SO amazingly sorry for the fact that 7 months after the fact I saw that you had posted a question to me and I never saw it or answered it. I am seriously not that big of a jerk. Honest.

    Here is the question:

"I love the look of your raised beds. Do you have them on an angle? Also, it looks like you have corn planted in a barrel. Did it do well in it. I had trouble with my corn last year and I am looking for other ideas for this year. Have a great day in the garden!"

Last year, the corn did not do too well. I have always had lousy luck with corn. This year, I planted a different variety and planted in a different spot. We got two edible ears (and then the ants took the rest), but they were the best, sweetest corn I'd ever had! (I don't have the seed package, but it was from Seeds of Change and called something like "Sweet Martian Corn" or something. The Martian part is because the cob is red. So, while it wasn't enough to feed the family, it *was* the first time we actually got to eat corn we'd grown.

As for the boxes planted on an angle, they are on a very slight angle. There is a wash sort of built into this yard that leads into the front yard and the boxes are on either side of it. I now have gravel in between all of the boxes and the angle is not as noticable.

I so very much appreciate your comment, so very sorry I didn't reply at the time.

Have a great day in the garden! :)

I can't believe how long it has been since I updated here. With the garden, work and family illness, it seems like forever. The summer garden is done and we are preparing to put in the fall garden this weekend. Will try to update pictures.

Thanks for the congrats City Girl. You know, it's tempting to plant outside, since the weather's been so warm but, all of a sudden, there could be frost, so I'm trying to hold off. It seems pretty evident that I won't have to wait until May 24th, as usual.

Congratulations on being named Farmer of the Day! Nice garden beds. But why so far apart?

Congratulations on being farmer of the day! You've been such an active urban farmer on this site. I see your name on lots of farmers' profiles. Sorry to hear you were feeling unwell. Hope things are better now. I definitely envy your growing season. It'll be a while yet until I can consider planting anything outside up here, even under protection. I hope our garden is doing well. Enjoy your 'farmer of the day' day.

Thanks for the congrats! Weather here in Vegas is great. I'm here on business and stuck in a business hotel, so no gardening here.

    Take care and thanks again!

Sorry for not updating my site in a while. I have not been feeling well and with the holidays it had been hard to get back into the swing of things. The weather in South Carolina has been up and down. One day you need your shorts and tee shirts and the next your need your overcoat and gloves. My poor garden is in between crops, as the hoop house has not gone up yet this year, becuase of me being sick. So we are starting this week to get things cleaned up and the hoop house in place. I hope to be planting lettuce and mustard by the weekend. All of the cabbage, collards and broccoli have been eaten. The boys have promised to help with new pictures for the site. We are planning on enlarging the garden this year. We are going to almost double in size. We worked on the plans between Christmas and New Years and the boys have already built several of the new raised beds. They just have to be put in place and filled. So hopefully by the weekend I will have more updates.
