Day Job:  www.dynamitespecialty.myvoffice.com/MitchMaceHall

The Digs:  Backyard, Containers, Front yard

Crops:  My husband was gracious enough to clear out a small section of our already small back yard for some raised beds. My vegetables vary and in 2012 I'm adding an apothecary garden along my front walk. My faves to grow are heirloom tomatoes, potatoes, peppers, tomatillo, fresh herbs, as well as sunflowers for the birds.

Animals:  Cats, Chickens, Dogs, Ducks, Rabbits, Because of our small, urban back yard I only have 6 hens and a rabbit on top of the 3 small dogs, 1 cat and 1 large tub of red wigglers for vermicomposting. My horse, goat, 2 muscovy ducks and several roosters and hens live at my folk's. I miss my 5 acres, turkeys, pigs and donkey, especially the space but I am very grateful for what I do have. I plan on adding a honeybee hive next spring and I'm considering a few quail. I'd love to add some fruit trees other than our fig. I'll have to work some magic on my husband though.

Why I'm Getting Dirty:  Because I really do enjoy the way I feel when I collect eggs, even if there are only 2 a day. Being able to can my veggies before they go bad and having my family say "mmmmmmmm" when we sit down to home grown meals is a rewarding feeling. There's a sense of a job well done at the end of the day. www.DynamiteSpecialty.myvoffice/MitchMaceHall 100% Balanced Nutrition Innovation guided by nature, backed by science.

Congratulations on being farmer of the day? Was 2013 a better tomato year? How are things going in spring 2-14? I have started tomatoes and cucumber inside but unfortunately, not all of my seeds sprouted. Only one cucumber plant and none of the squash I tried to start sprouted. I have tomatoes but I'm disappointed in how many sprouted. I may buy some tomato plants, too.

Congratulation & my vote for you!
Curiously, you said you only have a small space. How do you mean small? Cause sounds like you're able to maintain quite a bit. You must be a very good planner.
