I do use wooden spoon occsionally, especially when baking. But, for other food I get a little leary about making sure I've sanitized it.

Wooden cooking tools are alive and they help a cook make the meal come to life.

I had a set of lovely small wooden spoons that were perfect for tasting ice cream in small nibbles. I got them in Japan and I liked them because they were delicate and never transfered the cold of the ice cream. How do you care for them so they do not develop a mold on the surfaces?

Love hearing from you fellow tool-heads. Sorry it took awhile to get back to you. I agree that my wooden spoons are as powerfully evocative as they are lovely.

I had given up on wooden spoons until my recent read of Rose Tarlow's spectacular book on interior design, "The Private House" where she talks about her collection of wooden spoon--so I'm back to wood. There is something about handmade things, especially tools, that mass produced tools simply can't match.

Hi Judith,

I'm fellow UF blogger Rick Gush. I really like this blog of yours. I'm a big tools fan, as I think they have a lot of spiritual power. I have a hammer my dad gave me 50 years ago, and its like a religious item for me. I think the reason I have a workshop and a garden is because I adore all the tools in them. I garden and build stuff because I like using the tools. The vegetables and crafts are secondary in importance.
