Hi David,

I've got the cucumbers planted on a terrace about eight feet above the pathway, so I just set up some horizontal canes taht sit on the lip of the upper terrace and project above the pathway. I've grown usually on upright trellises, but in this case I think the horizontal placement gives the vines more sunshine. This was my clever solution to the "give them more space" problem, because my horizontal dirt space is limited.

I'll bet there are a ton of cold cucumber soup recipies on the internet, but we just put the trimmed cukes in the blender and then stir in plain yogurt and a few spices.

Thanks for the tip Judy. My wife was laughing about today's big as usual cucmber harvest. I'll suggest she try some of our mints in the mix.

Hey Rick, I envy your location! My CSA's cukes are going gangbusters too, even the bumpy Middle Eastern ones, but the deer got into my little sharecropped patch and ruined my own cuke vines before they could bear. Bummer. By the way, try mint or lemon balm if you can't get dill.

Your picture shows an interesting way to grow cucumbers. How far above the ground is the support for the vines? How wide is the support? Do you let the cucumbers take over any area they want or do you trim them back and keep them confined to a certain area?

I've just harvested my first cucumbers for the year. Eight in all and my are they tasty. I sure would like to know how to make that cucumber soup. It looks like I'm going to have plenty of cucumbers. One thing I learned about cucumbers is that they are the bully of the garden. Anything that those sticky tendrils can touch they will try to choke the life out of. I'm definitely giving them more space to grow next year.

I haven't seen any wasps in the garden. I only have three small raised beds so maybe it's just not worth while for them to hang out in such a small garden.
