Comments On - Locavore Recipe: Christmas Porridge

Wow, I never thought of making breakfast with so many different grains! Come to think of it, I have many of these in my pantry too. What a great idea!

Hmmm your mom's rice pudding breakfast sounds yummy. I'm with you , David, on the comfort of preparing, eating and even of tidying up.

Judith, I don't mind spending the time cooking. In fact it's all part of the eating experience. I usually have one main meal a day which could take up to two hours from beginning preparation to ending cleanup. I agree with you about the powdery packets of microwave oatmeal. Steel cut oats are my favorite. I'm not a fancy cook by any means and the simiplier the better. Mom used to make almost like a rice pudding kind of thing with raisins in it for breakfast. That was really good with fresh cream straight from the cow on it. Folks have gotten into the mentality of "Lets get this eating over so we can get on to the real thing we want to do." In my humble opinion eating should relaxing and enjoyable and not something we do just to sustain our life. Sorry about a little soap box.

Have a great porridge day.

How in the world do find these places?! This blog continues to be both interesting and informative. I live relatively near this area and have never even heard of the Wild Hive Bakery or known of any local farm which grows enough grain to be commercially viable. Good Work.
