Comments On - Cucuzza Squash

I just picked one of my late summer cucuzzas. It measures about two-feet long and weighs close to 10 pounds. Fruit setting was quite late, and although flowering was numerous on four plants with plenty bee activity, the earlier fruits dropped. I think it was the cool PNW weather pattern. Yesterday I decided to pull out the vines since the leaves had developed powdery mildew and felt so bad that young fruits were growing well. However, one or two of these large ones will set us up with a nice layered casserole for the time being. I trellis mine on wood trellises, but even at that, they wildly send out twisty tendrils everywhere. The most fun in veggie gardening I can think of.
