Comments On - Growing Artichokes in Your Garden

I started mine from seed 2 differs types but not sure if they both survived will find out later. I will be moving later on in the year so glad to find out they are perennials I forgot. One year I had one growing in upstate NY and forgot and pulled it out. I will have to add lime to the soil thanks for that info. The only question is how much lime and what other Mediterranean plants can I grow down here in zone 8.

Have 2 from the garden center, and 10 from seed growing in my greenhouse until it's warmer. Didn't know they needed the soil more acidic, glad I found out. Looking forward to the harvest, cheapest I've seen them in WA state is 2 for 1$, on occasion, so if I get 4 to 5 from each one, I'll be in heaven.

I am going to try and put 2 foot mulch to see if it will survive Zone 4/5 winter.

Artichokes are one of my favorite things to eat but I could never grow them. Now I see: I have the drought conditions (I live in the high desert) but we have clay. No drainage. I'm going to try your suggestions and see if it works for us! thanks!
